After the Bay of fires we continued our journey along the east coast towards Hobart. There is many free campgrounds to stay along the beaches along the East Coast. In summer the east coast of Tasmania is a very popular spot so make sure you arrive early at the campsites to secure an excellent camp spot. We always disconnect the caravan and go adventure around the surrounding areas.
Iron House brewery
A free campsite for fully self contained vehicles. This campsite is a excellent base to see St Marys Township or Hike up St Patricks head. This was a awesome hike and we were rewarded with views over the east coast beaches of Tasmania this was quit a hard track and is about 4km return circuit. The Campsite it self had a lot of activities around the resort and which were all free to use. There was mini golf, tennis, a arcade area and kayaks to use. Also if you wanted to use the resort pool it was $5 per person.
Another option would be to stay at Chain of lagoons this is for all campers and has got toilet facilities and access to the beach.

A great place to base yourself to see Freycient National park click Here for more info. This campsite is for fully self contained vehicles only. It has water taps around the campsite so you can have access to fresh water.
The other option would be to stay at Friendly beaches if you are not a fully self contained vehicle. This campsite has only got small camping areas but it does have toilet facilities and access to the beach but make sure you fill up your water tanks before heading down here as there is no access to fresh water.
Mayfield Beach
Is in a good location only 10 minutes from Swansea, This campsite is right on the beach and there is a few campsites with the ocean view. This place has flushed toilets but no water facilities so make sure to fill up before you head to the campsite.
Triabunna- Spring bay hotel
A perfect camp for a few nights, It is conveniently located a 1 minute walk to the ferry which will take you over to Maria island. It is located at the back of the local pub on a grass area, It has no facilities on the campground but there is public toilets located across the road about a 1 minute walk. Also can recommend the fish van for a meal which is located just at the side of the hotel, very delicious food and would recommend the seafood basket.

Port Arthur- Fortescue camp ground
This was a ideal spot we stayed for 4 nights, It cost $13per night. It is a great base as it is only 16 km from port Arthur and 24 km from Eaglehawk neck. The campground has hot showers, toilet facilities and has plenty of walks around the campground. Fortescue bay camping ground is the end of the three cape walk. From the camp there is plenty of walking tracks such as cape Huay walk which is around 10 km return trip from the campground, while we were here we also did the canoe bay walk which begins at the end of Fortescue bay you will see the beginning of the Tasman trail it is a 4km return walk along the bay.
