Free camps or Low cost camps are the very popular in Tassie and there is abundance of them around the state. We stayed at free campsites whilst travelling around Tasmania, Power wasn't an issue for us as we have great solar panel and battery set up to run without power. Many of the sites we stayed at had a dump point and fresh water to fill up our caravan. I have listed below the campsites we stayed at in our first month of Tasmania. We stayed at these campsites and unhooked the caravan from the car and drove to surrounding areas. This is the easiest way to see Tasmania and get to truly explore what Tasmania has to offer.
Railton Self contained RV Park With a maximum of 4 night stay it has a dump point and fresh water and is free. This is the perfect for your first few nights in Tasmania I have a blog on all things to do around Railton you can check out Here .This campsite is right near the beginning of the Mersey mountain bike trails and is a great place to check out.
Old macs farm caravan and motorhome farm stay We stayed here for 6 nights it is $15 a night and is only a 10 minute drive into Launceston it is an amazing spot if you would love to check out what Launceston. This spot is mainly for self contained vehicles as there is no facilities although There is toilets up the hill. When we were there, Their were a few camper trailers and some tents but next to a caravan. There is a dump point 5 minutes down the road for a donation of $2 you can fill up your caravan with water and for $4 donation you can wash your car, There are designated car washing spots around the farm. I would recommend doing the big hill walk for magnificent views.
North east park Scottsdale
Perfect place to camp for a few nights or 1 week! Its close enough to explore the surrounding areas such as the blue derby mountain bike trail, Bridport or go and explore the north east trail in Scottsdale you can check it out Here. You can walk to town from the campsite. The campsite has flushable toilets, Hot showers for $3 for 4 minutes and there is a dump point. between each campsite it had it has drinking water which is a nice additional feature to this campsite. There is a donation box up the hill near the toilets if you would like to donate some money to keep this awesome campsite running.
Derby free camping spot There is 2 free camping spots in Derby. One is by the river which is more for tenting and small vehicles. Then there is the big rig camping where we stayed, This spot has the bigger vehicles both spots are very nice. But the Big rig one is closer to the main road. Both camping spots give very good accessibility to the Blue Derby Mountain bike trails.

Weldborough Hotel Free camping spot. We found this spot on wiki camps it is a nice free camping spots for a few nights to explore and check out the few walks Here. You can also explore the rest of the blue derby mountain bike tracks including the start of the Atlas track but you will have to find a way back to Weldborough or use the shuttle service back. Another great close walk is the Mount Paris dam walk
Pyengana Recreation Reserve Is a free camp spot on a grassy field at the back of the recreation reserve where you can pitch a tent or stay in your motorhome, caravan or camper trailer. It is a nice quiet spot with some paddocks in the back and your surrounded by the mountains. The camp has got no dump point or fresh water but it does have coined showers and clean toilets. This place is a great base to explore the famous waterfall St columba falls and also is a 10 minute drive from Halls falls. We stayed here a couple of nights to explore from the camp. Also from here you can walk to the Pub in the paddock and the pyengana dairy company.
